British Airways will be carrying more than 463,000 customers over the extended Bank Holiday weekend as the getaway to sunny climes takes off.
Peak periods for travel are Friday, May 24, with 128,000 flights booked, and Monday, May 27, when another 116,000 customers will take to the skies.

Richard Tams, head of UK and Ireland sales, said: “Given the miserable May weather, it’s not surprising many of our UK customers want to kick start their summer by jetting off to somewhere warmer and sunnier.

“The Spring Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect opportunity for families to get away with flights to US and traditional European holiday hotspots are already proving especially popular.”

The most popular long-haul destinations for customers are in the US, with New York, Boston, Los Angles and San Francisco among the favourites, with flights to Dubai also very busy.

The top short-haul destinations for those seeking sun closer to home include Nice, Barcelona, Malaga, Rome, Edinburgh
