British Airways’ home at Heathrow, T5, has been voted the world’s best terminal in the prestigious World Airport Awards.
BA’s sister airline, Iberia, saw its base, Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas Airport, win the number 3 spot.
Announcing T5’s award, Skytrax chairman Edward Plaisted said: “Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, passengers clearly recognise that T5 has matured into one of the world’s leading passenger terminal facilities.”
Meanwhile Singapore’s Changi Airport knocked South Korea’s Incheon Airport off the top spot to claim the title of World’s Best Airport.
Heathrow, which also won the Best Airport Shopping Award, entered the airport top ten for the first time at number 10.
The World Airport Awards are based on 12.1 million survey questionnaires completed by 108 different nationalities of airline customers during the nine month survey period in 2012 and 2013, covering more than 395 airports worldwide.
This independent survey evaluates traveller experiences across 39 different airport service and product key performance indicators, from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
