British Airways has seen a boost in bookings to golf destinations over the past few days, attributing it to the success of its sponsored athlete Justin Rose winning the US Open – the first Englishman to do so in 43 years.Described as the ‘Rose Afterglow’, the airline has seen an increase in popularity to its European golf destinations, namely Alicante and Tenerife.

Claire Bentley, British Airways Holidays managing director, said: “It’s not a surprise we’ve seen a rise in holiday bookings to golf destinations, the US Open was a great advert for the sport – beautiful weather, endless greens and our very own Justin Rose picking up the trophy at the end. With the British Open taking place in July, now’s a great time to book ahead and get a great deal.”

British Airways sponsored golfer, Justin Rose, ranked third in the world, said: “Golf takes me all over the world, and as an athlete it’s really important to arrive feeling refreshed and ready to compete. In a recent survey of 2,000 people, British Airways found that people in the West Midlands and Scotland were the most likely to tag on a holiday onto their partner’s golf break.
