The last two Vickers VC10s are set to leave service with the RAF today after more than 40 years of flying.

The type originally went into service with BOAC in 1964 and were used extensively in the airline’s marketing in the 1960s and early 1970s.

The four-engined aircraft was popular with customers, and featured in The Aviators television advertisement in 2011.

It last flew in service with British Airways in March 1981
