British Airways is introducing a new option that will enable Executive Club members to use Avios and save money on all qualifying short-haul flights.
Customers can choose to use 1,500 Avios and get £10 off the price of the flight, 3,000 Avios and get £20 off or 4,500 Avios and receive £30 off. These savings are per person and can be used for up to eight family or friends on the booking.
This new option will be available on short-haul journeys departing the UK from October 29, 2013 and short-haul journeys departing the rest of Europe on November 4, 2013.
The airline already offers customers the opportunity to use part Avios, part cash to pay for an Avios reward flight. The new option means that Avios can be used on any European or UK domestic booking, not just Avios redemption seats, in either Euro Traveller or Club Europe.
Furthermore, customers will still collect Avios and Tier Points on these flights. For example, a Blue Executive Club member on a return flight between London and Istanbul can choose to use 3,000 Avios to reduce the cost of their ticket by £20 and will still collect 3,104 Avios for the trip. Bronze members would collect 3,736 Avios and Silver and Gold members would collect 4,304 Avios for the same trip.
Robin Glover-Faure, head of short-haul, said: “Our most loyal customers in the Executive Club have told us they want more ways to use their Avios and this new option is in response to that feedback. It enables them to realise real cost savings – as much as 38 per cent off in some cases – on European flights, so flights to somewhere like Barcelona could cost as little as £48 return and 4,500 Avios for someone on a hand-baggage only fare. ”
This new way to pay can be used on the new hand-baggage only and semi-flex fares, as well as on the standard and fully-flex ones.
