Customers of our Atlantic joint business partner American Airlines are beginning to see the benefits of their merger with US Airways as the airlines start to combine their offers and services.
A number of changes have been announced as part of the integration process, including earning and redeeming air miles across either airline’s network and reciprocal benefits for premium and club members, including shared lounge access.
American Airlines and US Airways have also aligned boarding announcements, check-in timeframes and co-located their ticket counters and gates at New York’s JFK airport.
Further benefits for American Airlines customers are also on the horizon.
Most significantly, a codeshare agreement to provide easy access to each airline’s global network is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. This will significantly boost customers’ travel options in the US and increase capacity on popular routes.
As part of the merger, US Airways is also due to come on board with the oneworld alliance on March 31, following its exit from the Star Alliance on March 30.
