As National Apprenticeship Week kicks off with events around the country, British Airways is set to recruit a bumper crop of apprentices in 2014.
The airline will employ 185 apprentices this year across the business, with areas ranging from engineering and operations, to IT, finance and project management.
Since 2010, more than 500 students have begun apprenticeships, with many graduating to permanent roles with the airline.
Keith Williams, executive chairman, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of providing young people with a combination of on-the-job training and theoretical education. They are a great foundation for a whole range of highly skilled careers at British Airways and we are proud to offer them.”
Dan Cusano, a current engineering apprentice, said: “My apprenticeship has allowed me to experience so many different parts of engineering. I have developed new skills, met new people and have a platform for a really successful career at British Airways.”
The airline offers a number of schemes for apprentices in London, as well as at its maintenance bases in Glasgow and Cardiff. Details of apprentice opportunities can be found at ba.com/careers.
BA will also become a founding member of the Heathrow Aviation Engineering University Technical College in 2014, and continues to offer a range of graduate programmes.
