Terminal 5 has been named the world’s best for the third year running. Heathrow itself, including all the terminals, came tenth in The World Airport Awards run by Skytrax.

“Terminal 5 continues to be a flagship experience for customers travelling through Heathrow and it is a remarkable achievement for the facility to be named the world’s best for the third consecutive year,” said Edward Plaisted, chief executive of Skytrax.

“2014 promises to be an exciting year for Heathrow with the opening of Terminal 2, and we are sure customers will watch with interest to see if the high standards of passenger facilities and airport shopping will be maintained at this new terminal,” he added.

Heathrow as a whole also won the Best Airport Shopping for the fourth consecutive year.

The World Airport Awards are decided by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. They are based on 12.85 million customer nominations across air travellers from 110 nations, and included 410 airports worldwide.

The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and product – from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure at the gate.
