British Airways has unveiled its winter schedule, which begins on October 26, coinciding with the clocks being turned back one hour at 2am on Sunday.

The airline has increased flights to destinations, and added new routes such as Grenoble and Friedrichshafen for skiers, and Fuerteventura for those seeking winter sunshine. Those looking for sun also get extra flights from Gatwick to Florida and the Caribbean as well as a new direct flight to Punta Cana.

Customers flying from Heathrow to Mexico City will have the choice of an extra weekly flight. Short-haul travellers will have more reasons to visit Vienna and Berlin, with an extra daily service, while Munich has six more flights a week, Brussels and Dusseldorf three and Amsterdam, Barcelona and Copenhagen, on each.

Domestic services have been boosted with six extra flights a week to Glasgow, five more a week to Newcastle, and two each to Aberdeen and Manchester.

Terminal moves

The start of the winter season also sees three destinations move terminals at Heathrow. Belfast and Dublin flights will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5, while flights to/from Barcelona will relocate from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3.

Dublin and Belfast moving out of T1 signals the start of the airline’s exit from the terminal. All remaining BA operations are set to transfer away from T1 by late 2015. To make space for the Irish flights at T5, services to Barcelona are moving to T3.

The switches bring a number of customer benefits. The Dublin flights have a high proportion of connecting customers and, in switching their arrival to T5, the minimum connection time will improve from 90 to 60 minutes. Customers on the Barcelona flights will benefit from our new largely on-pier operation at T3, introduced in September, also as part of the two-terminal consolidation programme.
