The UK Government announced last year that APD will no longer be charged for children between 12 years of age and under 16 years travelling on or after 01 March 2016. Children under the age of 12 years are already exempt from APD.This will also apply to children aged between 12 – 15 years travelling on all types of staff travel tickets including annual concession tickets. Whilst annual and premium standby concessions offer travel in a premium cabin, subject to seat availability, APD will not be charged providing the ticketed class of travel is economy.

Work is underway for systems to be updated to prevent the charge being applied. However, until this has been completed, the APD tax will automatically be deducted for this passenger group.

When this occurs a refund will be applied directly back to the credit/debit card used for payment. There will be no need to apply for the refund as it will be processed automatically, taking a minimum of one month to appear in the payment card account after travel has been completed.

This applies to all bookings made from today from travel from 01 March 2016.
