With the Oscar season upon us British Airways has rolled out the red carpet to bring Hollywood glamour to its customers, offering them the chance to watch scores of amazing movies all vying for an Academy Award.
During February and March the airline will be showing 12 major movies, available in every cabin on its long-haul flights, with Oscar nominations across multiple categories – two of which will feature immersive 3D sound to put customers at the heart of the action and drama.
From February 16, customers will also be able to view a specially-made programme, exclusive to British Airways, called ‘The Road To Gold’, which offers an insiders look into Hollywood¹s hottest list of big star contenders before the Academy Awards take place in a glittering ceremony in Los Angeles on February 28.

“Customers can choose from a star studded cast of movies all nominated for Academy Awards, such as Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, Amy, Carol, The Danish Girl And SPECTRE, and relax and watch them from the comfort of their seat on any one of scores of long-haul flights to destinations around the world.”
During February, British Airways will be showing Spielberg’s cold war thriller, Bridge of Spies, the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road, the intergalactic hit The Martian, the engrossing Steve Jobs biopic starring Michael Fassbender, the moving documentary about Amy Winehouse, Amy, and Straight Outta Compton, about the rise of hip hop group, NWA.
In March the airline will be showing the 50s story of forbidden romance, Carol, Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl, The Big Short’s account of the 2008 financial crash, the boxing drama Creed, Daniel Craig’s fourth outing in Spectre and the massive international blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Both Spectre and The Martian feature full 3D audio, available for customers to enjoy whatever cabin they are flying in, using either their own headphones or those offered by British Airways.
The specially-made Oscar programme being shown on board, ‘The Road to Gold’, will cover the award’s top categories, exclusive interviews with the nominees and behind the scenes reports in the lead up to the big night.
It includes interviews with stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Saorsie Ronan, Brie Larson, and Charlotte Rampling, nominated for Best Actress, as well as Matt Damon, Bryan Cranston, Eddie Redmayne, Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio all up for Best Actor.
