Wednesday April 27 saw the departure of British Airways’ first flight to San Jose, Costa Rica.

BA2237, a Boeing 777, was flown by Captain Dave Willsher, accompanied by Senior First Officers Andy Fonseca and James Capper (pictured below, ahead of the departure).

The flight took off just after 11.30 am with a flying time to San Jose of 11 hours and five minutes later.

The flight is the first of a twice weekly operation from Gatwick through this summer, rising to three times a week in winter.

It is also the first of a slew of new routes coming into service over the next week including the new Gatwick-JFK flight and the new Heathrow-San Jose California route. A new intranet site has been published to give colleagues full details of all the new destinations including guides to each one, health advice and flight schedules.
